Motivational Speaking Focused on Living Life Intentionally

I believe we are each the masters of our own destiny. I refuse to be a tumbleweed left only to the vagaries of the winds of life.

Michael's Presentation Philosophy

I love connecting with a live audience and get excited as I walk on stage.  I find myself motivated by the energy in the room. My objective in working with each client is to understand the audience I am to address.  I work to create a singularly unique presentation that directly speaks to each audience.  As a result, it is important to understand the composition of the audience.  I want to know whether I am speaking to interns, frontline employees, relatively new supervisors, mid-level managers, senior managers or all of the above?  Are there specific issues challenging the workforce I will be addressing?  This information helps create a relevant, focused presentation.

I enjoy laughing with my audiences and enjoy telling stories with a humorous component. Laughter helps lower defenses and tends to make audiences more receptive to the messages of the presentation.  The driving force behind my presentations is my firm belief that life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond.  I challenge audiences to be actively engaged in their work and reject the idea of becoming nothing more than tumbleweeds blown about by the vagaries of professional winds.

Spectator or Gladiator... You Decide

Working in America – Spectator or Gladiator…You Decide is a book about navigating the sometimes white-water rapids of the American workplace. It is also about living life with intentionality, never yielding to becoming a human tumbleweed, blown from one position to another and lacking passion for any.

Book Reviews & Testimonials

  • I highly recommend Mike Mason as a speaker. Mike’s diverse background and leader ship from the military to the FBI to Verizon and more is incredible. He’s able to capture the hearts and minds of his audience through sharing, leadership points, successes, and failures, and real-life experiences of his. He speaks with strength, authenticity, and a relatability that combine together is very uncommon. I loved hearing him speak and enjoy this book even more! I highly recommend bringing my kid for your organization.

  • Working in America is a good, quick read, yet a book you will keep thinking about long after you put it down.  Through his “aw shucks” storytelling Mason relates captivating stories to lessons in leadership, character and being human.  His easy writing style makes you feel like you are with him as he shares nuggets learned from mopping floors, pumping gas and making tough decisions in the Marines.  His accounts offer lessons not just for the corporate world but for every day life.

  • My favorite part about the book is how Mason brings to life his stories of the obstacles and difficult challenges he encountered as a black child, losing his mother at the age of two, attending a predominantly white high school, and later as an adult proving his ability and character in the workplace where he later became one of the most respected, high-ranking special agents in the FBI.  This book will definitely inspire the reader to become a better person and leader.  He emphasizes that gladiators conduct their lives with clarity of vision, moral standards, and take full responsibility for their actions.

  • As I read through “Working in America,” it is remarkable how accurately the events, people and environment are described. Mike is a person of unquestioned integrity, and this book reflects his honesty. He is always going to give it to you straight, with the bark off, completely unfiltered. He’s my 911, the person I turn to when I have a particularly difficult dilemma to solve professionally, ethically, or morally. This is a “must read” book for every person about to enter the work force for the first time.
